Abstract

Chlorine is a chemical substance that can have a negative impact on human health and the environment. At Soekarno Hatta International Airport, chlorinators are used to maintain the consistency of clean water quality used by passengers and airport workers. Chlorinator is a device that treats chlorine solution (a mixture of water and chlorine) to be injected into clean water distributed to all buildings at the airport. Currently, the chlorinator in the Soekarno Hatta International Airport Pumping Station building still operates manually, where technicians must pour chlorine into the chlorinator tank and stir it manually using a dipper or makeshift tools. To protect technicians from chlorine exposure and improve clean water quality, it is necessary to evaluate and modify the chlorinator system. This modification is designed by adding an automatic system controlled by a Programmable Logic Control (PLC) type FX1s-20MR. The programmed PLC will adjust the selenoid valve and water pump to mix the chlorine solution with water in the chlorinator tank. With the additional use of Float Level Switch as a sensor, the dosage of water and chlorine can be adjusted optimally, so that the quality of clean water distributed to terminals and buildings at the airport can be improved.
